In this interview with Knowledge@Wharton, Professor Kevin Werbach discusses the role regulations can play in spurring innovation. It’s interesting because we as water and wastewater equipment companies have often asked the EPA to play a stronger role in enforcing regulations and force utilities to invest more readily in returning to compliance. He uses Skype and Uber as examples of innovations to be regulated (or not) and focuses on Big Data, the Internet of Things and the On-Demand Economy, all of which are trends we see in our own industry:
